More Recommended Picture Books

All Alone, by Kevin Henkes – A beautifully written and illustrated book.  In this day of constant motion and visual and audio stimulation, Henkes encouragement to appreciate quiet time alone to dream is a welcome change (4-8).

Brown Bear, Brown Bear, What do you See? by Bill Martin and Eric Carle – A charming book that encourages the pre-reader to identify sight words and make predictions what the brown bear will see. Pre-school to Grade 2

Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs by Judi Barrett (Author), Ron Barrett (Illustrator) – A delightful picture book for the older set (9-12).  The title says it all.

Go Away, Big Green Monster! by Ed Emberley, Edward R Emberley – Encourages the reader (or the read-to) to convince the monster, “You don’t scare me!”.  This is a beautifully produced book, on thick durable stock with die-cut pages for kids to stick their fingers in – and right through, the monster (4-8).

Ish, by Peter Reynolds – Companion story to “The Dot”.  A celebration of the creative and artistic process.

Is There Really A Human Race, by Jamie Lee Curtis.  With her typical humor, Curtis reveals to her readers the importance of the little things in life.

The Kissing Hand by Audrey Penn – A touching and heart warming story of a special bond between mother and child and how they keep that bond when those first school days come between them.  A must read for the child who is fearful of that first day  (4-8).
